AT Medics commenced its management contract for Canberra Old Oak Surgery on Monday 1st August 2016, combining patients from The Practice Canberra and The Old Oak Surgery.
The Old Oak Surgery has undergone a series of changes since March 2015, with termination of its contract due to patient safety concerns followed by a care-taking arrangement up to 31 July 2016, enabling a long term commissioning decision to be made. The Practice Canberra has been managed by The Practice Plc at the Parkview Centre for Health and Wellbeing, which also houses 3 other GP practices, and the contract to manage this practice expired on 31 July 2016 also.
With a proven track record in rapid mobilisation of clinical services and extensive experience in clinical turnaround where governance issues exist, AT Medics are committed to delivering similar improvement that they have evidenced at the nearby Cassidy Medical Centre in Hammersmith & Fulham, where they have achieved a huge reputational shift since they began managing them in 2015, as well as across London at several other practices since 2004.
Also in West London, Barlby Surgery has been managed by AT Medics since 2004 and Kings Road Medical Centre since 2007, with a combined population of just under 20,000 patients. Both practices are rated “Outstanding” by Care Quality Commission (only 9 practice in London have achieved this), they have also been awarded the RCGP Quality Practice Award (the highest award in UK General Practice), Investors in People accreditation (world-class management framework for staff high performance) and ISO 9001 (internationally recognised standard for quality management). AT Medics will be utilising this experience and their resources for holistic development at Canberra Old Oak Surgery.
AT Medics work has included working in some of the most deprived areas in London and increasing access and provision successfully. They have also worked in difficult, poorly performing practices and have rapidly improved performance and efficiency, as well as developing and retaining a steady team.
Dr Aumran Tahir, AT Medics GP Director and Founder commented “Patient care and safety must always be the focus of our efforts. I lead on Quality Improvement, Clinical Informatics and Research for AT Medics, and have previously held the role of Clinical Director of the North West London Whole Systems Integrated Care Programme. These roles allow me to bring a depth of knowledge and experience in comprehensive improvement of service delivery whilst nurturing, developing, integrating and empowering our West London teams.
We will be responding to and better understanding the specific needs of patients at Canberra Old Oak Surgery, whilst working to improve cooperation with local community organisations and to engage better with patients with enhanced health promotion.
We have already launched a new website for Canberra Old Oak Surgery patients (www.canberraoldoaksurgery.co.uk), which can be instantly translated into 100s of languages, this resource enables and promotes patient services such as Online Appointment booking, viewing your Medical Records, “Message My GP” and ordering Repeat Prescriptions – we will be working with our patient group to help them to access these resources to ultimately enhance their experience and to better self-care.
It’s really important to involve patients in helping to shape the care we deliver, as their voice helps us to design a service that truly meets their needs. We will be holding an Open Day soon to reach out to patients and the local community, and we will proactively engage with them to improve patient satisfaction through a consistent, personalised, warm and compassionate approach.”
It is with great pleasure that AT Medics has accepted a five year renewable contract to manage Canberra Old Oak Surgery.
